Thanks to Ashley 5th grade students in the classes of Mr. Herd and Mr. Zwick for helping prepare these stories.  Eat Your Radio Journalists helped prepare these programs for broadcast in morning announcements and for sharing at Parent Breakfasts and cooking classes, and also on the Ashley Elementary school website.

Parenting Tip: Kids try more new food when they help make it.

Chicken Salad Wrap Recipe

Ingredients:       Yield: 6-8 servings

  • 2 cans chicken (10 – 12 ounce cans)
  • Yogurt plain low-fat (8 ounces)
  • Red grapes (1 pound)
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Whole wheat tortillas:

Directions:

  1. Open and drain canned chicken.
  2. Cut grapes in half or in quarters.
  3. Put chicken and yogurt into a bowl and mix well.
  4. Add cut-up grapes to the bowl and mix.
  5. Place a piece of lettuce leaf onto tortilla.
  6. Put chicken mixture on the lettuce and roll.
  7. Eat and enjoy!

Tip for Kids:  Eat a variety of healthy foods every day!
